One of a series on the Northern Landscape.
This is a hill near where I live at the beginning of spring. I wanted to capture a sense of the fresh greenness, a hint of winter in the dampness. And the smell of manure in the air and below your feet. There used to be a neolithic settlement around the area and I imagine that maybe they’re all buried somewhere under the hill. Either way the form of the hill looks like a giant man lying down, even though it looks less so here as I removed a few trees for the painting. Interestingly it used to be a military training ground. Is the that the earth making it’s own comment?
