‘A Landscape in Pain’

moody landscape oil painting by Susan Wellington

Here’s one small painting I finished yesterday. I’ve called it ‘A Landscape in Pain’.

Painting’s like life. The way it turns out isn’t always where you wanted to go when you started.

I try to let the canvas lead me where it wants to go so it’s always a bit of a surprise when you reach the destination.  The painting started off with a windsurfer in the foreground of a stoney coast with conifer trees. The windsurfer disappeared and it ended up a kind of barren, desolate mood with gaping holes in the earth. But there’s a tiny bit of sunlight left there in the clouds. Hope.

I'd love to hear what you think.
