‘A River in Time’ gouache sketch

This is a quick sketch I did a few years ago of eucalyptus trees along the Yarra River in Melbourne. The Yarra is an unusual browny colour as a result of clay soil which is quite unique.

This painting’s in one of my favourite mediums- gouache on paper. The Australian landscape to me is rough but simultaneously delicate with bright, harsh light, especially around midday. And that’s how I tried to paint it.

I'd love to hear what you think.
